Attention!   Recently deciphered ancient biblical text reveals that '616' — instead of '666' — might have been the original Number of the Beast. The tiny fragment of 1,500-year-old papyrus is written in Greek, the original language of the New Testament, and contains a key passage from the Book of Revelation. Where more conventional versions of the Bible give 666 as the Number of the Beast — or the sign of the anti-Christ whose coming is predicted in the book's apocalyptic verses — the older version uses the Greek letters signifying 616. This is a very early confirmation of that number, earlier than any other text of that passage. It's probably about 100 years before any other version [ Well, I would not accept or dismiss this issue out of hand just on fist contact, as many of my brothers and sisters might feel tempted to do. We should research this thing; and in the meantime — and just in case — I will have both numbers into account. I encourage you to also do so. Attention!   Daniel B. Wallace, Ph.D., Executive Director of the Center for the Study of New Testament Manuscripts responds to the above article on the Number of the Beast. Among other things he says: "The number 616 was known in antiquity and was discarded in the 2nd century. Irenaeus, the patristsic commentator, wrote a chapter on the Number of the Beast, arguing that in the better manuscripts of Revelation that he had seen the number was 666 instead of 616. To be sure, his perspective was theologically motivated (he gave the interpretation of 666 as striving for perfection [represented by the number 7] but never able to achieve it). But the fact that he was writing in the 2nd century tells us that BOTH numbers existed at that time. It may well have been Irenaeus' input that caused scribes to alter the text to 666 if 616 was in the exemplar that they used. I know that some of these news and articles might sound somewhat far fetched, but as far as I know they are true.  The media, in general, takes the supernatural or conspiratorial off the public eyes.  Remember, the enemies of the Almighty claim the same concerning the realities described in the Bible.  The fact that something sounds strange, even weird, does not mean that it is necessarily unreal.  After all, we are in the End Times and things will get even stranger and much more distasteful before the Messiah returns to end it all as we know it, and then start a new, perfect and beautiful world.  What a wonderful Day that will be! I pray that you all are able to discern in these alternative news and articles the actual fulfillment of many prophecies which multiple generations of believers longed for the honor to see and live.
